Nook Lounge, Crooked Mason

Nook Lounge: I notice that often rooms are not just flat-walled in dreams. Smaller rooms, or nooks, trail off, so that it is difficult to see where a room ends.
Crooked Mason: Out of the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made --Kant.

Color Cave, Sapient Tree

Color Cave: colorful stones radiate with their own light, nestled in geological formations that grew before human time.
Sapient Tree: two sapiens, one reptilian, the other hominid, grasp branches of parallel evolution. One gained knowledge, the other lost his limbs.

Back Scratcher, Hall for All

Back Scratcher could be a large public sculpture

Hall of All shows the strange possibility of a collection of all that ever was, is, and will be.

Body Rooms, Action Arm

Body Rooms: Rooms are not just spaces, but characters. I return to the same ones often, both in dreams and in daydreams.
Action Arm: Cupie dolls, innocent mankind, maintain a large arm, enforcer of will that often gets out of hand.

Teeth

Teeth
porcelain, oil on canvas 40x50 2014

Ravenous nature is the inspiration, an expression of consumers being consumed.

As a boy I collected fossilised shark teeth, strange remnants that reveal themselves in layers of geology.
The dissonant mixed media (highly tactile, physical porcelain vs. wispy, diffuse oil paint washes) seem analogous to fossilised teeth, the only trace left to a fleshy, wispy creature who swam millions of years ago.

The teeth in this painting were individually sculpted, then cast in a one-piece mold. In this I pressed porcelain, which has a very boney or toothy feeling when fired at high temperature.

The Tarot Continued

I continue painting and drawing this series, now in the comfort of my home studio. I began them last week during my stay in Skien Hospital. They are based on memories and ideas that I have retained for decades, since childhood.

Personal Tarot

During a lengthy stay in Skien Hospital  I decided to start a series of Tarot cards. Rather than the age-old, arcane symbols of the Tarot as we know it, these are inspired by fantasies and moments that I have retained, some from distant childhood.

They are painted with water-colour and pen, measuring circa 10x21 cm.
